Stuart Gavzy, Of Counsel at Compassionate Counsel, brings over 30 years of specialized experience in bankruptcy law. Since 1991, Stuart has dedicated his practice to helping individuals and small businesses find relief through Chapters 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy. Known for his patient and compassionate approach, Stuart understands the challenges his clients face and is committed to guiding them through each step with empathy and expertise.
Bankruptcy Experience
Stuart’s extensive background in bankruptcy includes representing debtors and acting as a Chapter 7 and 11 Trustee, as well as a liquidating trustee in complex Chapter 11 cases. Since 1998, he has focused exclusively on bankruptcy and insolvency, assisting clients with a range of financial difficulties and working as an Assignee for the Benefit of Creditors in numerous cases. Before joining private practice, Stuart served as Assistant U.S. Trustee for New Jersey, where he oversaw bankruptcy filings and managed case administration—a role that gave him a comprehensive understanding of bankruptcy processes from all sides.
Professional and Community Involvement
Stuart is a member of the Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel. Previously, Stuart served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Character and actively contributes to the New Jersey bankruptcy community, including the Local Rules Revision and Lawyers Advisory Committees. He has also led seminars on bankruptcy law and has taught legal studies courses as an adjunct faculty member at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Montclair State College.
Education and Publications
Stuart holds a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and an M.B.A. from New York University. A published author on topics in bankruptcy law and legal technology, he has contributed to the *New Jersey Bankruptcy Manual*, among other publications. His articles and lectures reflect his dedication to making legal services more efficient and accessible for clients and colleagues alike.

"Class Act"Brant was hired on by me as my bankruptcy lawyer. In the middle of my case, the company he was working with started to do unethical practices that Brant was not ok with. Brant ended up starting up his own firm, but I was stuck with the company he was working with before. When it came time for us to go to court, the firm was not prepared whatsoever for our case and they were lacking tons of info for my case. I was told by them not to contact Brant as he had no control of what was going on with my current case. After we went to court and they weren't prepared, I proceeded to fire them and let them just keep my money. I then reached back out to Brant he he picked up where the case was and shuffled appointments around on his schedule to accommodate our new court date. Brant showed up and was prepared to help us with our case. The case is now closed and it is due to all of the hard work that Brant did for us after the last firm messed everything up. "Debt lawsuit assistance"Brant was incredibly helpful to me from the start in dealing with a lawsuit from my bank regarding an old credit card debt. He was clear about what he could (and couldn't) do for me, and was up front about his costs. He didn't promise anything that he couldn't deliver, and in fact reached a very reasonable settlement with my bank's lawyers. This debt that has weighed on my mind for nearly a decade has been resolved to everyone's satisfaction and, as a result, has lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders. Although I hope never to be in this situation again, I would immediately call Brant if I was in need of such services again.
